Residents and road users within Atwima Techiman and the surrounding communities have threatened to sue the contractor working on the Kwadaso-Atwima-Twedie road in the Ashanti region.

They say the contractor has abandoned the project as the road deteriorates further, leaving users helpless.

Asabea Contractor has been working on that stretch, but has abandoned the project for several months as residents have been at the mercy of potholes and deadly traps that have plagued the road.

The more than 27-kilometer highway, which runs from Kwadaso to Twedie, Foase to Nweneso, when completed, will improve the standard of living for residents and travelers on that stretch.

But until then, the situation has worsened as perennial rains wash over parts of the road, creating deep gullies and erosion.

Residents expressed frustration when GhanAkoma production followed ongoing road projects in the Region.

“We are very concerned about the condition of our road and do not understand why the contractor has abandoned the project for more than 2 months.”

Residents, who seemed angry and disappointed, further regretted that “we are planning to take the contractor to court for abandoning this road as the road deteriorates into a death trap.”

Angry residents cited examples of numerous cars, which have crashed into abandoned bridges that have developed manholes in the middle of roads.

Meanwhile, speaking on Akoma FM’s morning show GhanAkoma on Thursday, October 29, the district’s executive director, Otchere Tawiah, expressed frustration, explaining that countless attempts to reach the contractor have proved futile.

“I don’t know why the contractor has decided to abandon the project while residents wallow in a bumpy and potholed road.”

Mr. Okyere Tawiah complained that “I am sure that the contractor has decided to sabotage the government and therefore has abandoned the project”.

He added that the situation has given him sleepless nights as all efforts to reach the contractor have been unsuccessful.
