Arsene Wenger hopes Mikel Arteta can get Arsenal back to playing free football.
During Wenger’s best parts of the tenure, Arsenal was recognized for its attractive style of play, but that has slowed somewhat in recent years.
At times, in Wenger’s later years at the club and for much of Unai Emery’s tenure, Arsenal struggled to play cohesively.
However, Wenger feels that Arteta, who played under him, can restore Arsenal’s “culture”.
As reported by talkSPORT, Wenger said: ‘I am still very concerned about the club and I watch all the games.
“I think there is a culture in the way I play soccer at Arsenal that I want to be respected.”
“And I hope Mikel can get that back.”
Arteta, who took over the Gunners in December, has won eight of his 15 games as Arsenal’s head coach so far.
There have been some disappointing moments, including leaving the Europa League against Olympiacos, but the Spaniard has also received much praise for his work so far.
Arteta has tried to bring more structure to the Arsenal team and after having worked with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and since it is a product of the La Masia academy in Barcelona, it is clear that he wants his team to play a game based on in possession.
However, Arteta still has a lot of work to do at Arsenal, and his goals to improve the squad will not be helped by the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
