Manchester United fans have the theory of Dayot Upamecano’s transfer after RB Leipzig’s win

Dayot Upamecano has been linked to a move to Manchester United but had a night to forget against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men on Wednesday night.

The RB Leipzig defender found it difficult to go as United managed a 5-0 win over their German opponents in their second Champions League group match.

Marcus Rashford came off the bench to score a quick hat-trick as the hosts backed up their impressive 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain last week.

This latest display led some United fans to suggest that Rashford and company might have also helped the club’s hopes of signing Upamecano, who reportedly has a £ 38 million release clause in his current contract.

United are undefeated since the international break after wins over Newcastle, PSG and RB Leipzig, and a draw against Chelsea somewhere in between. Next up is a home game against Arsenal, with United entering the game full of confidence after their landslide victory over the Bundesliga leaders.

Here’s how some Twitter followers responded …

@isholaolumide: With what Rashford did to him yesterday. Upamecano now costs £ 15 million, not £ 40 million.

@Daria Satellite: Hi @MarcusRashford, you may have made buying Upamecano easy.

@TuftyMUFC: Rashford has done a better job of lowering Upamecano’s transfer value than Woodward’s first offering.

@BaronDamaraji: Ole to Rashford: “Lower the price of that Upamecano for us …”

Rashford to Ole: “No problem, teacher.”

@alan_sithole: Did Rashford just destroy our Upamecano target before scoring that goal?

@Theblurrykid: Rashford just lowered the price of Upamecano lmfao.

@_Coachy: Rashford literally lowered the price of Upamecano last night.

@utdcynical: No, Rashford is showing serious levels of Upamecano LOOOL.

Meanwhile, former United star Rio Ferdinand told BT Sport: “It’s about being ruthless, but I thought Upamecano had a nightmare. This is cruelty.”

“You had no doubt, once he went through there, the confidence he is showing at the moment and only his intention to hit the back of the net and get between the goals.”

“Game over. There is poison when he hits him like this.”

Former Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Upamecano has had a bad smell this second half.

“I was reading this morning that United are going to play in Upamecano very, very soon.

“But if you were really exploring it in tonight’s performance, I don’t think you would accept it!

“I suppose if you were exploring Harry Maguire, for the sake of discussions, you’d say he’s top-notch. Fun game!”
