Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta says adequate resources have been made available for the upcoming December 2020 elections.

According to him, the budget provision is to ensure a safe and secure environment during the elections.

“We have taken the necessary steps to ensure that the elections are held in a safe environment.”

In recent activities, the country has seen a growing number of violent clashes between the 2 main political parties.

A peace walk by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on October 25 turned violent in Jamestown in the Odododiodio constituency.

The incident saw several others on both sides suffer varying degrees of injuries.

President Akufo-Addo has condemned the standoff between supporters of the NPP and NDC, stating that no act of violence will be tolerated, especially as the country heads to the polls.

During the presentation of the budget status of the first quarter of 2021, Ken Ofori Atta also pointed out that the government has put in place security measures to guarantee a violent free election.

He added that this provision is to stop and contain all threats before, during and after the elections.

“The government has also instituted various security measures to ensure that we have peaceful elections and contain all threats.”
