Some supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the eastern Upper Manya Krobo constituency closed the Electricity Company office in the area due to an intermittent power outage during Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s campaign tour.
The vice president, as part of his three-day campaign tour to the Eastern Region, visited Asesewa on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.
However, there was a storm in the area that caused a power outage before the vice president and his entourage arrived. Power was briefly restored but was turned off again when the program was about to start.
This enraged the young people who rushed to the ECG office to lock the main office door with their own padlock. The personnel, according to eyewitnesses, left their vehicles and jumped the walls of their various homes.
“There was a heavy rain so the power was cut off so fast that we ordered one of our men to go to Aman from the Okere area so that if anything, we switch to connect the power via Koforidua to Tinkong to Asesewa . So immediately what we tried happened, the power came and reached the Bisa junction, but there was another fault there, the high voltage cable was knocked down by a tree that fell on it, so we rushed to break the line at Akateng highway. To cut the line to change before we had power
“But immediately we arrived at the office, PNP supporters rushed us and locked the front door with their own padlock. So we have to jump the wall before we go home. They came here three times and tried to fight us. They brought their own padlock and even put red hazard there, ”an ECG staff told Starr News.
The young man returned at midnight to open the office.
Mary Eshun-Oppong, ECG’s East Region public relations officer, confirmed the incident to Starr News.
