Barcelona’s new signing, Sergino Dest, talks about his first weeks at the club since leaving Ajax from the Eredivisie.
Initially, the 19-year-old entered the team directly on the left side, to replace the injured Jordi Alba, but returned to his preferred position on the right for El Clásico.
Dest has looked good in his first four outings with the Catalan giants and explained how he is adjusting to his new team.
“You have to find your place in the team and play, that’s why at first I want to play simple, get my place, get my chemistry with the team and then little by little grow more and more in the team,” he said.
“Koeman has given me confidence and now it’s up to me. I have to play good games, develop myself. He gave me the opportunities, but it’s up to me whether I make them work or not.
“I’m just trying to play my game. I’m a defender, so right now I’m trying to defend a lot. If possible, I move on. Before, at Ajax, maybe I was ahead a bit and I forgot my defense, but now I don’t forget my defense. I look for my moments to move on.
“Little by little I am gaining confidence in the team and I feel that in a couple of weeks I will be totally myself, giving everything I have. Obviously, I give everything I have right now, but then I’ll feel more comfortable in the team. “
