President Akufo-Addo cut the grass on Monday for the start of work on the 64-kilometer Ashaiman to Akosombo dual-highway project.
The highway project will cost about € 256 million, is expected to be completed in 30 months, and is being built by INZAG GmbH of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The project includes the construction of a two-lane highway and two-lane service roads from Ashaiman to Sebrepor.
In addition, there will be a two-lane highway from Sebrepor to Afienya, a two-lane highway from Afienya to Kpong and a two-lane highway from Kpong to Atimpoku.
The contractor also informed President Akufo-Addo that there would be three bridges, an overpass at Ashaiman, an interchange at Asutuare, and the construction of eleven walkways at various locations along the span.
The president also inspected work on the 26.6 km Accra-Tema highway project, which cost approximately $ 100 million.
The project is expected to be completed in 24 months and is being carried out by Messrs. Gansu International Corporation and China Major Bridge Engineering Company Limited.
The first 16-kilometer batch starts from the Arch of Independence to Nungua, while the second 10.6-kilometer batch continues from Nungua and ends in Community Tema 3.
There would also be a three-level interchange at the Nungua barrier to address congestion issues that road users are experiencing.
Once completed, this road will serve as the main link giving access to communities such as Osu, La, Teshie, Nungua, Sakumono and the port of Tema.
