Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku revealed that Black Stars players received $ 2,000 each as a reward for participating in both international friendly matches this month.
The team played Mali and Qatar earlier this month in Antalya, Turkey. The first match against Mali ended with a shocking 3-0 defeat.
However, it was a different result in the second against Qatar, as the Black Stars thrashed the Asian champions 5-1.
The games served as an opportunity for coach Charles Akonnor, who was assigned the job in January, to finally debut and also evaluate the team before the return from the Africa Cup of Nations playoffs in November.
“Players received $ 2,000 for friendly games [unlike the $5,000 we used to pay after each game] due to the circumstance in question, ”Okraku said on Nhyria FM.
“However, let me hasten to add that the players weren’t interested in monetary benefits, but in team building. This is because we are preparing a new team for the future, “he added.
The aftermath of the friendlies have not been good, with six players testing positive for coronavirus.
