In Ghana’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made a globally acclaimed statement that has been repeated over and over again.
The now famous “We know what to do to bring our economy back to life. What we don’t know how to do is revive the people, ”the statement has been questioned.
Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini has questioned the first part of the statement, insisting that the President does not know how to revive Ghana’s economy.
He made this statement in an interview on Happy98.9FM’s “Happy Morning Show” with Samuel Eshun where he said: “I can challenge the president’s statement. He doesn’t know how to get the economy back. He said the economy is robust and can survive any shock But COVID-19 was able to shake up our economy in a matter of 3 weeks, forcing us to look for budget support, get into the stabilization fund, and get loans to support the economy, so how can you revive the economy? He asked.
Under its authority, COVID-19 has exposed vulnerabilities in the Ghanaian economy prior to the outbreak of the virus, and that has been exacerbated by the virus itself. With the President alone in a sham and “doing nothing to secure the economy.”
Comparing developing nations such as India with Ghana, the MP stated that, “India, a country that has the same position as Ghana has been able to provide its citizens without any external support and that is proof of a country that can revive its economy and not Ghana “.
