Frenkie de Jong has been talking about what position he feels most comfortable playing in ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Juventus in Turin on Wednesday.
New boss Ronald Koeman has returned to a 4-2-3-1 formation since replacing Quique Setien at the helm, using De Jong and Sergio Busquets as his double pivot.
It’s a system De Jong knows quite well and says he feels more comfortable playing there than in a more advanced position.
“I think in my nature as a player, I want to get the ball early in the play and prepare for the play. I think that’s more my style of play than waiting for the ball and receiving it in front and touching the ball less.
“I think I feel more comfortable at the pivot position than at the front, but I can also play at the front. It doesn’t matter so much to me, but if I had to choose, I’d rather play as a double pivot than, for example, as a playmaker (false nine) ”.

Koeman’s team heads to Turin in search of a win after La Liga losses to Getafe and Real Madrid and will not have the suspended Gerard Piqué and the injured Philippe Coutinho for the clash.
The Barça coach will also have to decide who will play in the center of the field. The game sees Miralem Pjanic take on his former team and he can get the nod alongside De Jong after Busquets really struggled in El Clásico.
