The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, has advised Church ministers to focus and desist from harboring a grasshopper mentality as they begin pastoral work.
He said that the grasshopper mentality was full of evil that could destroy oneself and others.
The Most Reverend Asante made the call at an ordination service held for 17 candidates, on Mt. Olivet Methodist Church in Dansoman on Sunday, as part of the total of 46 candidates ordained by the Church that day in Accra.
Most of Reverend Asante called on ordained ministers to exhibit faith in God as they began their journey to the Ministry and told parishioners to pray for God’s strength and protection for their lives.
“You are called to the Ministry to lead God’s people in worship and prayer, to care for them when they are sick and healthy, to teach and equip them for your services,” he said.
Most Rev. Asante exhorted the new Ministers to always trust God for His protection and divine guidance throughout their lives.
He also advised them to be humble in rendering their services and to turn to God whenever they encountered difficult times.
Ministers were encouraged to accept wherever they were assigned, keeping in mind the need to serve God in faith.
“You may find it difficult to forget who called you, but Jesus is enough,” he added.
Ministers and the congregation had to give up turning to spiritual direction and enchantment elsewhere for protection, instead praying and trusting God completely, he added.
