Lagos state residents who have been abused by the defunct Special Anti-Theft Squad (SARS) can now write a petition against the police unit.
In addition, the residents of Lagos can now claim compensation from the government if their complaints justify it.
To achieve this, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has created a Judicial Panel to investigate the brutality and rights violations committed by officers.
According to the governor, the panel is headed by Judge Doris Okuwobi.
He said Okuwobi has a mandate to investigate all the problems that happened at the Toll Plaza.
Going further, he revealed that the panel will begin to meet on Monday, October 26 at the International Center of the Lagos Court of Arbitration in Lekki.
“They will receive requests from Monday. If you need to send the request by email, your address is [email protected]“We hope that everyone who has a case, a petition or something will come to this panel. They have been extensively empowered to determine how they function and conduct themselves on the panel. “
The governor said the panel will meet for six months.
In a related event, Sanwo-Olu announced the easing of the curfew imposed in Lagos state due to repeated attacks on the facilities by suspected thugs wreaking havoc under the guise of an EndSARS protest.
The governor made the announcement late Friday, October 23, during a statewide press conference.
