The Central Regional Police Command along with its sister security agencies have embarked on a march to boost confidence through the main streets of Cape Coast.
The exercise, which lasted more than three hours, was attended by officers from the police, the army, the immigration service, the Ghanaian national fire service and the prison service.
Police resources such as ambulances and moored vehicles, among others, were displayed to assure the public that the Police were well equipped for the task ahead.
The exercise started from the Regional Police Headquarters, through Pedu to Abura, Kotokuraba Nstin and other communities identified as hotspots for elections in the Cape Coast metropolis.
The exercise was aimed at assuring the public of the readiness of security agencies to maintain public order before, during and after the December 2020 elections.
Addressing the media, the regional commander, DCOP Habiba Akyere Twumasi-Sarpong, said that the police and the other security agencies were ready to ensure peace before, during and after the 2020 elections.
“We are professionals and we will remain neutral. We have the forces and we will monitor the elections together, ”he said while emphasizing the need for effective cooperation between security agencies to successfully carry out the task that lies ahead.
DCOP Twumasi-Sarpong assured Ghanaians, especially the people of the Region, the maximum protection and therefore admonished them to reduce their fear of crime.
However, he warned young people not to allow themselves to be used for crimes during the political season.
“If someone commits a crime in the name of politics, the policy will not be considered at all and the person will be prosecuted according to the law,” he said.
In addition, he encouraged Ghanaians, especially young people, to respect the law and support the police and other security agencies by offering voluntary information that would help the police get ahead of unraveling crimes.
