Messrs. First Sky Limited have been commended for their work on the 64 km Kete Krachi – Dodiokope road project.
This was after President Akufo-Addo commissioned the project in the newly created Oti region.
The project was carried out in three phases by Messrs First Sky Limited, at a total cost of ¢ 156 million, and was financed by COCOBOD, with the Ghana Highway Authority acting as the executing agency and supervisory consultant.
The project that initially cost ¢ 176.5 million was completed at a cost of ¢ 156 million, saving ¢ 20 million.
Speaking with Eric Seddy Kutortse, President, First Sky Group, Project Contractors, explained that the savings in the project cost were due to prudent project management and the decision to establish a quarry closer to Kete Krachi – Dodiokope Road Project .
“The decision to establish a quarry closer to the project site was key to the cost of the project as it eliminated the cost of transporting the quarry’s products from Shai Hills, Accra. The distance from Shai Hills to the project site (Kete Krachi – Dodiokope) is 497 km, ”said Mr. Kutortse.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways, acting through the Ghana Highway Authority, explained that reengineering the project to include the establishment of a quarry near the site helped save the nation ¢ 20 million GH, as the distance and the cost of transportation were drastically reduced. .
The Kete Krachi-Dodiokope highway runs through the Krachi West and Krachi Nchumuru districts in the Oti region, serving communities such as Kwaaku, Ntewusu Bomoden, Duakese, Gyato Chayo, Motoka 1 and 2, among others.
The completed highway project is expected to enhance staple food production, fishing, trade and other economic activities in the 3 districts of Nchumuru, Krachi East and West, and will also serve as a main route for the transportation of yams from Oti and the north. regions of the country to the south.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Roads and Highways have almost concluded negotiations with Messrs. FDN / INTORL, a Dutch company, for the design, financing and construction of a 1.6 km prestressed bridge over the Oti River in Dambai / Dodiokope.
Feasibility studies have been completed for works to commence upon receipt of the necessary approvals from Cabinet and Parliament and, upon completion, will provide relief to residents living along the catchment area and merchants transporting goods and services across the Oti River.
Along with the Eastern Corridor and other completed, ongoing and planned road projects within the Oti region, the bridge will enhance agricultural production and other economic activities in the Oti region; especially the districts of Nchumuru, Nkwanta North and South, Krachi East and West.
Kete Krachi city roads
Before the commissioning ceremony, the president inspected ongoing work on the city’s road construction in Kete Krachi and Chinderi, the district capitals of Krachi West and Nchumuru, respectively.
The construction of these roads, according to the project coordinator, Messrs First Sky Ltd., will give Kete Krachi and Chinderi a complete facelift to suit their status as district capitals, and both roads will receive 10 kilometers of asphalt concrete overlay. in your artery. and collector roads. The remaining roads will be updated with a bituminous surface coating finish.
The project, which began on October 2, 2020, is scheduled to be completed in a period of 12 months, at an estimated cost of ¢ 58,989,255.95 GH, with financing from the Consolidated Fund.
Roads under the contract include the following: Krachi Town Main Road – Village of Life Academy to Lakeside (Asphalt Concrete) (5.0km); Residency Road (1.30 km); King Adom Kwafo Crescent (2.1 km); Krachi SHS Highway (1.5 km); Bank Road (0.5 km); Royal Lakeview Hotel and JH Kholi (1.5 km); Apostle Ntumy Road (0.50 km); Dentewiae Drive (1.0 km); Asetena Link (0.1 km); Shehu Ummar Road (0.65 km); and Soldier Camp Road (0.8 km).
