Edinson Cavani could face Chelsea star Thiago Silva this weekend
Speaking to EN24 News (h / t Daily Star), Manchester United star Edinson Cavani has potentially sounded about lining up against his former teammate and Chelsea star Thiago Silva this weekend.
Chelsea take on United in what is the biggest game of the weekend. The tie will also see two players who played a decisive role in PSG’s internal dominance face each other.
“It will be great to be able to find him in the field.”
Despite their advanced years, the duo are still capable of putting on a show. Given its form over the past decade, it wouldn’t be wrong to describe the showdown as an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.
Cavani knows the Brazilian’s talent well. He was full of praise for his former captain and described the Chelsea player as an excellent footballer.
“He is a very good central defender and an excellent footballer.”
Silva endured a difficult introduction to English football on his debut against West Ham. To his credit, it’s gotten better and now he’s showing why the Blues decided to move for him this summer.
Silva has helped the Blues keep two clean sheets so far. In fact, one doesn’t need to look back too far in the past to assess that he still has the wits about him.
Older and wiser
The Brazilian veteran was stellar in the final of the Champions League, where he kept Robert Lewandowski silent for the entirety of the game.
The Polish international is possibly the best striker in the world. It is a testament to Silva’s ability that he was able to keep Lewandowski scoreless despite his age.
The competition between Cavani and Silva will be a delight for the neutrals. If we are guided by the history of the Brazilian, it will not be surprising that he reaches the top.
