In what was a very strange turn of events this week, it was revealed that Chelsea football director Petr Cech was on the final list of Premier League teams.
This, of course, immediately led to questions for Frank Lampard, who insisted that the club legend was only there for emergency purposes.
We have no doubt that is true, and the chances of seeing him play are slim. But there’s no denying it’s an exciting idea, and even current player Jorginho had to admit that it could be fun.
“It would be a pleasure to play with him because I have only played with him on Playstation,” joked the former Napoli midfielder.
“I think it can help a lot, you know?”
Hopefully it doesn’t come to that. Edouard Mendy is back in shape and hopefully can rack up appearances from now until the end of the season, with no need for anyone else to intervene.
But, if the darkest timeline happens, there’s a man waiting who can put the helmet on one last time for the sake of the Blues …
