The vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agygemang, condemned the absolute silence of the president after it was reported that her minister had fired in the Awutu Senya East constituency.

During the voter registration period, Ms. Hawa Koomson reportedly shot a polling station in Kasoa, in the central region.

Confirming what she did, the minister said that she had to fire the warning shots to scare away a group of people who for her were in the registration center to encourage crime.

Later, she was invited to the Central Regional Police Headquarters with taking statements and also seizing her weapon.

However, since the incident occurred, the President of Ghana has neither condemned nor reprimanded his minister for drawing and firing a weapon.

Speaking in an interview on 21 Minutes With KKB monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang indicated that it is shocking that the president has been silent since the incident considering the level of insecurity in the country.

He pointed out that if parliamentarians already have guns, why is there a cry for protection, as they can protect themselves?

“I recently heard that a deputy had gone to a polling station and fired a gun. What has happened? So, if the parliamentarians already have guns, what is the country’s business now to attribute security people with guns? “

When asked what his advice would have been to John Dramani Mahama if he were faced with such a problem, he said: “I don’t think I have to advise you. I would have acted. What do you think it would have been? That you did well and that I should have congratulated her? From your own experience with him, do you think you would have waited for someone to come to advise you? At the very least, I would have found out what exactly happened and I’m sure I would have taken the appropriate action. Depending on what I found, I don’t think I would have praised or protected her. “

For her, there was no need to wield a gun in the first place let alone shoot when she could have informed the police of any form of threat she felt.
