Teenager Curtis Jones has had his first Champions League start for Liverpool’s Group D opener against Ajax in Amsterdam.
The 19-year-old was one of four changes in Merseyside’s draw with Everton on Saturday, three of which were applied due to injuries to Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara.
Joe Gomez entered central defense, where he was joined by midfielder Fabinho, with James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum lined up alongside Jones in the middle.
Ajax included household names from the Premier League such as Dusan Tadic, Daley Blind and Davy Klaassen.
