The Ofori Panin Fie has described a circulating video in which a broadcast journalist named Kwabena Bobie Ansah from Accra FM attributes the funding of the JB Danquah Memorial Center to the sole efforts of the Ghanaian government.

The Ofori Panin Fie is concerned about the content of the post and has refuted the claims, describing it as a false, irresponsible and abysmal attempt to misinform the population and raise spirits within the country as the 2020 general election approaches.

In a statement signed and issued by the Secretary of State of Akyem Abuakwa. MTF Ofori Atta, Ofori Panin Fie’s place on the record that the JB Danquah Memorial Center located in Kyebi was never fully funded by the government.

According to Ofori Panin Fie, former President John Agyekum Kuffour in 2006 began construction of the facility in Kyebi to serve the people of the area.

According to the statement, the project was abandoned by the Mills / Mahama management and was later completed in 2018 thanks to the promotion of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council and the sponsorship of Huawei Ghana, a Chinese telecommunications company.

The facility was named the JB Danquah Memorial Center in commemoration of his outstanding contributions to the birth and development of our nation.

It houses an ultra-modern ICT Laboratory donated by the Yamoransa Foundation for the teaching and learning of ICT with special emphasis on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), a Maker Space also donated by the Yamoransa Foundation for the teaching of the robotics engineering, as well as the construction and development of applications based on virtual reality, games and 3D printing applications, a GIFEC Zonal office which is a 30-seat ICT laboratory for teaching, learning and applying ICT.

The facility also houses a library, an EC office and a radio station.

The statement also states that the entire facility is managed under the auspices of the Ghana Library Authority, the EC and Okyenhene.

“As such, Ofori Panin Fie and Nananom of Akyem Abuakwa would like to emphatically state that the JB Danquah Center was not funded by Ghanaian taxpayer money. However, it was sponsored by Huawei Ghana and the Yamoransa Foundation, ”he emphasized.

They hinted that the JB Danquah Center is not family owned by Ofori Panin Fie, but owned by the Ghana Library Authority and is intended for public use by members within and outside the community.

“We wish to admonish all journalists to continue being decorous and professional in their reporting and to desist from publishing misleading information to ensure the continued dignity of the media space,” the statement warned.

He added that the Ofori Panin Fie remains open to all who request it for further clarification on any issue related to the Kingdom and the State.
