Manchester United won again in style on Saturday night with a complete 4-1 win over Newcastle United.
The result provided three much-needed points for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following early season losses to Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.
Of course, those losses exposed the need for defensive reinforcements at Old Trafford after a transfer window that strengthened Solskjaer’s attack without adding a center back.
United is expected to enter the market in January if they fail to find consistency during the first half of the season.
With arrivals possible in January, here is the latest transfer roundup from United.
United eye Valverde
United have increased their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, according to the Sun.
The 22-year-old Uruguayan, who has established himself as a regular in Zinedine Zidane’s first team at the Bernabéu, has a £ 640 million release clause in his contract.
United are said to have a bright future and are keeping an eye on their progress after a series of impressive performances for Los Blancos last season.
Paul Pogba, who recently admitted his dream of playing for the Spanish giants, could be used as a ‘pawn’ in any possible deal.
Dortmund say United ‘misjudged’ deal with Sancho
Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke claims United ‘misjudged’ Jadon Sancho’s situation when trying to negotiate a fee for the winger.
Dortmund was keen to sell Sancho to United over the summer for £ 108m, a price the Premier League team deemed too high.
With Sancho unshaken for a move to Old Trafford, Dortmund were able to protect themselves from United and retain the player’s services until January at least.
“[They] he misjudged the situation, ”Watzke told ZDF Sports via the Manchester Evening News.
“We would be more willing to compromise. We had a clear line and we will continue to do so next summer.
“In this industry, you can never say that a player cannot be completely sold.”
Haaland favors the march of Madrid
Dortmund forward Erling Haaland sees Real Madrid as his next destination, according to Spanish media ABC.
Haaland has been in sensational form since joining Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January, scoring 21 goals in 24 games.
United tried to sign the Norwegian international before his move to Germany and risk losing the 20-year-old once again.
The report credits United and Chelsea with their interest in the prolific forward, but it will be difficult to persuade him of a change of dream to the Spanish capital.
United are interested in Sporting Wonderkid
United are interested in signing the youngster from Sporting Lisbon Luis Gomes.
The 16-year-old, who signed his first professional contract earlier this month, has also piqued the interest of Atlético de Madrid.
Despite their new five-year contract with the Portuguese team, United is believed to have agreed to a first-down option should Sporting choose to sell in the future, which would cost the Red Devils £ 14 million.
United previously bought Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Bruno Fernandes from Sporting.
