The Ghana Police Service has been reminded of its critical role in the country’s peace and development ahead of the 7 December elections.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II pointed out that without the police there will be widespread chaos in the country given the critical role they play in maintaining law and order, which is a prerequisite for development.
“The work of the police is very important … if there were peace and development, they are the ones who play a key role in that effort. They are stopping armed robbery and all kinds of violent activities in the country. Detain and prosecute criminals in court and prosecute them for the crimes they have committed. His work is very important to Ghana and I want to assure him of the necessary support in the performance of his duties, ”he told the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, during a courtesy visit to Manhyia. Palace in Kumasi.
The Asante Monarch also underscored the importance of the police in keeping the peace before, during and after the 2020 elections, and expressed the hope that the IGP and its men will contribute their expertise.
“The peace that we all want in the next elections depends on you. Let it be known that anyone who violates the law will be treated in accordance with the laws of the country. You have prepared for the polls and bear in mind that we do not have another nation of Ghana and we must protect it, “he accused.
The IGP, for its part, pledged to work in concert with its men to ensure that the 2020 elections are very peaceful and to congratulate the King for his support.
He called on Ghanaians to go to the polls peacefully and refrain from fomenting trouble, adding that the law would reach anyone who breaks electoral rules.
