Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh, former municipal executive director of Ejisu-Juabeng in the Ashanti region, says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has performed poorly on governance and security issues in the country.
According to him, there is a proliferation of firearms in the country due to the president’s lousy leadership in handling security issues, which has led to heinous crimes since he became the country’s leader.
Commenting on the need for Members of Parliament to receive police protection due to the recent assassination of Mfantseman’s MP, the late Ekow Hayford, Yamoah Ponkoh attacked President Akufo-Addo on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ morning show which has lost control of state security to thugs and armed robbers.
He stressed that it has become the order of the day for people to import weapons and deadly weapons into the country under President Akufo-Addo as he does not know what security is as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghanaian Armed Forces.
“Recently, we learned that some people have been arrested for importing pistols and other weapons into the country; that’s the state we’re in. There is no control and the government’s security performance is negative; I mean that the president does not know what security is, ”he rebuked the PNP government.
For him, the Akufo-Addo government should be proactive enough in proposing security and prevention measures that they wait for such heinous crimes to be committed before the police make an arrest.
“There must be security and preventive measures in our security system in the country. Do you wait for crimes to occur before congratulating the police for arresting the criminals? What preventive measures do we have? ”, He questioned.
However, he accused the Akufo-Addo government of rampant importation of firearms.
“The truth is that there is a proliferation of firearms in the country under the presidency of Akufo-Addo. What they are going to use weapons for is for them, “he accused.
He warned against the intention of the Akufo-Addo government to disrupt the upcoming elections, as nothing can be done to prevent them from taking place.
“… whatever the government does, the election will take place; we only pray for life and strength ”, he added.
