Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been urged to consider rotating his midfield amidst the poor form of Bruno Fernandes.
The Portuguese star was instrumental in United’s charge for third place at the end of last season, but has failed to reach the same heights so far this season.
United moved to add the talented young Donny van de Beek to their ranks in the summer transfer window, but the Dutchman has yet to start a Premier League match since his arrival.
Now former Manchester United winger Luke Chadwick feels the time might be right to give Fernandes a break.
“Signing Van de Beek allows a bit of rotation,” Chadwick said. Caught offside. “Bruno Fernandes is not shooting as much and it will always be difficult for him to keep up with last season.”
Solskjaer’s biggest problem is getting his team to bounce back from a demoralizing 6-1 home loss to Tottenham before the international break.
While Fernandes was retired at halftime for that game, van de Beek only arrived on the field with just over 20 minutes to spare, with United already 5-1 down.
But after showing flashes of brilliance in his previous performances, Chadwick feels that van de Beek can now get his shot at Newcastle on Saturday night.
“I can’t imagine they signed a top-tier young player just to sit on the bench all season,” he added. “I think there will be changes from the last game.

“Van de Beek is the one you would expect to start this game. You have to find a way to win games and I would be very surprised if he wasn’t a starter. “
United will be forced to make changes anyway as forward Anthony Martial is suspended following his smug red card against Spurs.
However, new signing Edinson Cavani is not available as a substitute, opening the door for Odion Ighalo to get off to an unusual start.
