The annual ban on drumming and noise making within the Greater Accra region will begin on Monday, May 11, and be lifted on Thursday, June 11, the Ga Traditional Council said.

The Council said the end of the ban, a major factor in the Ga Homowo festival, known as the “Odadaa” celebration, would take place on the esplanade of the Gbese Mantse Palace, Gbese Blohum.

A statement signed by Nii Dodoo Nsaki II, acting chairman of the Ga Traditional Council and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday, said that the celebration of the Ga Mashie Homowo festival would begin with “Shibaa”, which is cleaning the land. from Monday, May 4, by Dantu We and ends on Tuesday, May 12, with Nae We.

He said that the sowing of corn seeds, also known as “Nmaa Dumo”, will continue on Monday, May 11 to Tuesday, May 19.

He said that the corn harvest, the “Nmaa Faa” rites would start from Monday, June 1 to Tuesday, June 9.

The statement says that the Council appeals to all indigenous people in and around the Accra Metropolis and all cities and towns under the jurisdiction of the Traditional Area of ​​Ga and to the public to cooperate with the Council during the established period.

He said that the Council is aware of the difficult times the country was in due to the Coronavirus pandemic “and we ask all citizens to follow the Central Government directives on social distancing, use of facial and facial masks, washing of hands with soap. and running water as many times as possible and the use of hand sanitizers.

“Please, we also recommend that, if possible, stay home if you can.”

The Council is also advising all Wulomei, Fetish Priests and Priestesses, Asafoatsemei and Asafoanyemei who would oversee the festival rites to ensure they comply with social distancing protocols at all times, adding that attendance by a rite should not exceed 25 people.
