NPP Loyal Ladies, a volunteer group from the Youth wing of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday October 14, 2020, embarked on a walk in solidarity with its members who were allegedly targeted by thugs within the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). ).

Some unidentified individuals believed to be NDC thugs on October 11, 2016 attacked the Suhum branch of the Loyalist Ladies of the PNP at Chief Suhum’s Palace while campaigning ahead of the 2016 general election.

The thugs allegedly attacked the Loyal Ladies for drilling holes in the activities of the then MCE, Mrs. Margaret Ansei.

The ladies had gone to campaign house to house and just as they were about to conclude their activities, thugs out of nowhere surrounded them, demanding to know which of them had called the name of the MCE in the area.

The ladies then sought refuge in Chief Suhum’s palace but the thugs chased after them and assaulted them along with some chiefs who were in a meeting.

In the process, some of them were abused and had broken legs. The incident was reported to the police, where medical forms for medical treatment were issued.

In commemoration of the incident 4 years ago. PNP Ladies Loyalists led by the Minister of Gender, Ms. Cynthia Morrison, gathered at the office of the PNP Constituent Party in Suhum and walked through the main streets amid chants.

The walk was intended to remind Ghanaians that never again should a woman be subjected to violence because of her political views and affiliations.

Addressing members at the Suhum Bus Station, Ms. Cynthia Morrison said that women should be encouraged, supported and pressured to play an active role in the political process and help shape the dynamics of social change.

She called on Ghanaians to give the government of President Akufo-Addo another mandate to run the country’s affairs for the next 4 years, as according to her, the PNP has done extremely well after taking office.

According to her, the flagship programs implemented by the PNP government, such as the free SHS and also the absorption of the cost of electricity and water in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, are a clear indication of a socialist party.

She implored people to work harder and campaign massively for the party to secure a second term in office.

For her part, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, who is also a deputy from the Anyaa Sowutuom constituency, Mrs. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway also preached against electoral violence. He said that the PNP is known for its tolerance and that no party should participate in any violent act before the December elections.

In attendance were Suhum MCE, Margaret Darko Darkwa, National Youth Organizer, Nana B, Ms Gifty Aboagye Oware, NSS Deputy Executive Director, Nana Appiah Mensah, General Director of State Housing, Oboafo Kwadwo Asante, Suhum’s parliamentary candidate, among others.
