Veteran journalist Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako says he fears former President Rawlings may humiliate him when he (Baako) visits to express his condolences for the loss of his mother (Rawlings).
Mr. Rawlings lost his mother of over 100 years, Mrs. Victoria Agbotui, about a month ago and has seen many dignitaries and a large number of Ghanaians visit his home to sympathize with him.
Both President Nana Akufo-Addo and former President John Mahama have already visited Mr. Rawlings’ Ridge residence to mourn with him.
Commenting on the issue on the Peace FM program Kokrokoo monitored by Kasapafmonline.com, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, who is the editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, said that he finds it very difficult to visit his former close friend. [Mr. Rawlings] after fighting him for over 40 years.
According to him, Mr. Rawlings is unpredictable and could do anything to embarrass you if he visits.
“… As for whether I will personally go and do that, I ask who am I? Look, my problem with Rawlings is political, it has nothing to do with something personal. I’ve said it before, he has a perfect sense of humor, he’s a fantastic gentleman if you interact with him. Your politics is what I hate, simple. That doesn’t mean you should hate it.
“If the GJA had asked me to join them in going to express their condolences to Mr. Rawlings, I could have considered it. If I had left, it would have been the first time I had met him since November 1979. We haven’t seen each other since… and that was at his home at the time he was staying at UTC Flat.
Mr. Baako added: “Let me tell you something, since I say he has a perfect sense of humor, he also has a certain spark. If I visit him, he might look me in the face and ask ‘what are you looking for in my house? Do you want me to go there to embarrass me?
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako had once called the former president a “licensed irritant” and an incoherent person.
