Brazil international turned forward, Roberto Firmino has expressed his deep affection and appreciation to his teammates Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah for their exploits to Liverpool’s success and his work with them.
The attacking trio have scored 225 goals together since they became teammates at Anfield when Salah arrived from AS Roma in the summer of 2017.
These incredible scoring results helped catapult the Reds to four major trophies in the previous two seasons, including the Champions League and the Premier League.
“I really admire Salah,” Firmino told FIFA.com. “I love the way he plays. Score many goals. You wouldn’t believe how hard he works.
“I am very grateful to play alongside him and Mane, another great player.”
Firmino spoke in international service after having bagged twice in Brazil’s 5-0 victory over Bolivia on Friday night, the opening match of CONMEBOL’s qualification for the next World Cup.
The forward’s club-level successes in recent years have only heightened his desire to lift more trophies for his country to follow last year’s Copa América triumph.
“The performance of the entire team, the spirit we show deserves congratulations,” he reflected on the SelectionFirst step towards Qatar 2022.
“Having a winning start was important, and doing it with such a good performance makes it even better. Scoring two goals was an incredible feeling. I had more chances, I could have scored more, but I’m very happy.
“I’m 29, I feel like I’m in the best moment of my career. I want to keep working hard and help Selection get to the World Cup.
“[I want to win the World Cup] so much, so much, so much Much more than you imagine. I won the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the Premier League. [The World Cup] is what I lack.
Brazil began the qualifying campaign without Alisson Becker as the Reds goalkeeper rehabilitates a shoulder injury sustained earlier this month.
But Firmino reiterated his appreciation for a player he considers to be the standard bearer in his position: “For me, he is number one. I’m not saying it just because he’s my teammate.
“The things he does on the field are incredible. You’ve already done a great job for him Selection. And off the court, he’s a sensational guy. He is a great person, a great friend, someone with whom I get along very well. “
The Brazilian has started every game for Liverpool in the new campaign, but has yet to find the back of the net for the Premier League Champions.
