PRESEC presents the NSMQ 2020 trophy to Prez Akufo-Addo | Education

The government, as part of efforts to improve science, technology, innovation and mathematics (STEM) teaching, is training some 9,000 elementary school teachers across the country.

Additionally, 4,400 basic schools across the country are equipped with STEM teaching materials.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made this known on Wednesday when he hosted Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESCE), winners of the 2020 National Science and Mathematics Questionnaire (NSMQ), at Jubilee House.

According to him, the construction of 20 STEM centers across the country would begin soon and the project would also include the supply and installation of educational equipment and the training of teachers and instructors.

“The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation have intensified their efforts to develop a powerful science, technology, innovation and mathematics (STEM) educational model for Ghana that will stimulate the interest of pupils and students in the engineering, science and technology from the basic level.

“The government’s goal is to include more science students to meet our initial goal of 60 percent science students in our technical institutions,” said President Akufo-Addo.

Winners

The 2020 PRESEC winning team, along with their NSMQ teachers and organizers, were at the Jubilee House to present their sixth trophy to the President.

Undisputed kings

The president, who shared fond memories of his Presbyterian education, congratulated the team and urged them to strive for greater heights.

He said he was very proud of the team, especially since they were the first group of Free Senior High School policy recipients to win the trophy after 10 years.

“The Odadee impressed the entire nation with their performance in the competition. You were second last year and you have taken another step this year to the top position. So I applaud contestants Isaac Kofi Gyamfi, Benjamin Nketiah and perhaps the most famous of all Daniel Kekeli Gakpetor and reserved player Faith Cyril for making sure that trophy number six finally made it to PRESEC.

“In fact, having gone almost a decade without winning a trophy, it is entirely appropriate that the graduates of Akufo-Addo, that is, the first group of beneficiaries of the Free SHS policy, were the ones who ever finished the PRESEC trophy draft . So, I also share their success, ”he said.

President Akufo-Addo also reiterated that PRESEC has become one of the best “if not the best” high schools in the country.

“In fact, winning the sixth title means that they are now the undisputed kings of the national science and math contest. As an honorary Odadee, I am proud of this achievement, ”he added.

The president also congratulated the management, teaching and non-teaching staff, students and students of the school, both past and present.

He also expressed his appreciation to the organizers of the Prime Time Limited questionnaire for their continued efforts to make the teaching and learning of science and mathematics exciting.
