Barcelona’s small squad is giving Ronald Koeman some headache. The coach has had to work with very few players in recent days due to international plays and absences and things are not improving.
The preparation for the visit to Getafe has not been the best and the party is great for Barça facing the ‘Classic’.
Koeman is thinking about giving Lionel Messi a break, but it may not be the only surprise at XI. The club is waiting for Jordi Alba to be out for the Getafe clash, but there was hope that Junior Firpo would be fit.
The ex of the Betis has had problems of injuries for several weeks and was expected to return now. However, ‘AS’ says that the the left back will be out for a few more days. He’s not ready to force things yet because that could end up causing a more serious injury.
Without left-backs, it seems that Sergino Dest will come out on that flank in Getafe. He played a few minutes against Sevilla due to Jordi Alba’s injury and he will have no choice but to do the same again for now.
Curiously, Barcelona has gone through this situation in recent seasons on different occasions and Semedo, another right-back, had to be played as a temporary measure too often.
It does seem, in any case, that Jordi Alba will be ready for the clash against Real Madrid on October 24, but it would be ideal for Junior Firpo to get in shape as soon as possible. Barça has the Champions League just around the corner and Jordi Alba does not want to work excessively so early in the campaign.
