There was a bit of a deadline story that came up very mildly during this summer’s transfer window.
It never really grew, but Chelsea had an interest in signing Thomas Partey, the midfielder Arsenal were trying to sign, and of course they ended up signing.
Chelsea’s interest was confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has been speaking on his latest Podcast Here We Go this week.
However, Romano also confirmed that although they were interested, Chelsea were ‘not in the running to sign Thomas Partey’ during this transfer window.
Frank Lampard turned down the opportunity to sign Christian Eriksen from Inter this summer.
Chelsea did not participate in the race to sign Thomas Partey despite having interest. They only want their main targets (Declan Rice).

He confirmed that Chelsea was only focusing on their main targets for each area (in this case Declan Rice), and if they couldn’t sign them then they would settle for what they already have.
This also reiterates the fact that Chelsea is likely to replace Rice again this January when the winter transfer window opens, as he is still a prime target.
