Jamie Redknapp praises Mason Mount’s performances comparing him to Kevin de Bruyne

Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp firmly believes that Mason Mount has the skills to be the next Kevin De Bruyne for the England national team.

Mount scored England’s game-winning goal as the Three Lions managed a stunning 2-1 victory over Belgium in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday 11 October.

“We were purring watching some of Kevin De Bruyne’s passes and he’s coming to get the ball,” Redknapp said via Sky sports.

“When we talk about Mount, I want him to do that more, he can do it for us, you don’t have to stay to the right.”

Mount recorded seven goals and provided five assists in his debut season at Chelsea last season and continues to appear in Frank Lampard’s plans.

His performances in the Premier League have impressed England manager Gareth Southgate, who believes Mount will have more to come.

“He is a first-rate player. He can receive [the ball] under pressure, “said Southgate talkSPORT.

“He is smart with his movements. Of course, he is still learning. Finding space in the first half was difficult.

“But in a tactical game where it’s so important on defense what the forwards do, to have a player like him who can do both sides… like Marcus Rashford did, like Dominic Calvert-Lewin did.

“I read a lot about Mason and I think he is a very underrated player, but not by us.”
