Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said that it is not true that a government official was detained with £ 26 million in the UK.
He added that it is also not true that the British authorities intercepted a shipment of cash from Ghana to the United Kingdom.
Speaking on Takoradi-based Skyy Power FM on Monday, the minister accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of fabricating the news as part of its planned propaganda ahead of the December elections.
According to him, as the country approaches the December elections, the opposition NDC will deploy all sorts of propaganda tools in a desperate attempt to sway voters who point to the substantive issue as one of those propaganda techniques.
“It is a total manufacture and we are clear in our minds that it is an NDC manufacture and it is part of their strategy for these last eight weeks where they will produce a lot of fabrication, lies and fake audiotapes.
“We are clear in our minds that this is the NDC for one or two reasons. The first person to articulate it publicly is Inusah Fusieni, NDC MP for Tamale Central.
“They are the ones who defend it and articulate it on their online media platforms, including Radio Gold online. And now it can also be found that there is a fake audiotape that pretends to be international news that has been broadcast since last night, ”he said.
He said the strategy is similar to that deployed by the NDC weeks before the 2008 general election and has been part of its propaganda architecture, especially in election years.
However, the Minister called on the media and the general public to ignore such fabrication and more importantly, be on the lookout for a similar mix in the future of the NDC as the country’s two major political parties fight for the votes.
“We are calling first of all to the Ghanaian media and general public not to fall for these counterfeit or manipulated inventions and tapes that they are going to produce in the next eight weeks as we prepare for the elections.” added.
