Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor was back in front of the camera on Sunday as he looked ahead to Monday’s international friendly against Qatar. Our head coach spoke about the game against Qatar, meeting their players on and off the field, the lessons learned from the defeat of Mali and more.
This is what he told ghanafa.org
On the lessons after the defeat of Mali
I think many lessons have been learned, through this game, I got to know my players, the new ones, the old ones, our attitude that we put on the field of play. The way we behave on the pitch and everything, so I’ve learned a lot. Based on these facts, I have had a couple of meetings. Some individual meetings with each and every member of the team and I hope that in the next game our attitude will change.
On the attitude and discipline of the players during the Mali match
Tactically we weren’t disciplined either, the things that we discussed that we were going to do, we didn’t do, it was just a few minutes that we did that and it didn’t really help us. We didn’t really show a good performance, it’s quite unfortunate that we played the way we did.
Approach to the Qatar game
The approach is going to be different. First of all, against Mali we were not compact and I am looking forward to improving in that area to be compact and of course how we approach, how we attack. The way we attacked in the offensive form of play was not effective and we need to improve in that area and of course on defense we allow too many opportunities for the opponent. Yesterday we worked on it, we discussed it, today we will continue and hopefully tomorrow you will see much improvement. I’m very, very positive about it and I know we will improve in that area.
On meeting the players on and off the field
It went well, some of the things you have to be honest. No matter who is. You have to tell it like it is. In fact, this is the senior team, it is not a club level, so it is important that we all understand that level and demonstrate that commitment in terms of the way we play. In my position, I have a way of doing things and with the help of my technical team, we plan, we think about what will be best for us, then it is up to the playing body to embrace it and work to achieve it. That has been the message, we are not a club, we are a national team and that is why it is important that we do what we do in our club when we come to the national team, there must be a way to help raise the image. of our country.
About possible changes
Yes, there will be changes to the squad for the Qatar game
About Nicholas Opoku
He has not fully recovered. The Doctors will look at it again, evaluate it and inform me.
On the disappointment of the Ghana fans
I can understand your disappointment. I have read a bit of your comments and it is disturbing but nobody asked me to be a coach, that’s what we are made of I have accepted the criticism in good faith. I am Ghanaian and want to follow the Ghanaian path, but things would change and we will enjoy seeing the team again.
