Black Stars forward Jordan Ayew says he is very happy to receive the Footballer of the Year award from the Ghana Sports Writers Association (SWAG).
The Crystal Palace man was crowned the 2019 Footballer of the Year by SWAG on Saturday 10 October 2020 at a ceremony held at the Swiss Spirits Alisa hotels in Accra. This award comes after a stellar performance by Crystal Palace in the 2019/2020 season where he won the player of the season, goal of the season and finished the season as the club’s top scorer with 9 goals, two assists.
Jordan has been talking to ghanafa.org about the new look of the Ghana Black Stars, last season’s heroics, and Ghana’s game against Qatar.

Being crowned SWAG Footballer of the Year 2019
The news came to me through the GFA, they informed me minutes after dinner. I am very happy and fortunate to win this award. I want to thank my family for supporting me from day one, for believing in me and obviously my fans at Palace, my fans in Ghana and my fans around the world. I want to thank you for your support and the trust you have had in me from day one. Today I am someone at the top, I am very grateful and it makes me want to do more and work harder and obviously to keep going and get higher and higher and see where it will take me.
On last season’s performance
Last season was a great season, but it is due to all the hard work that I have put in all these years and, obviously, last year it was good for me since the African Cup of Nations and I also took it to the side of the club so I mean I have to thank all the people who have believed in me and all the managers who have trusted me from day one. I am grateful to all the most important people behind me. My brothers, my mom, my dad, and the Ayew family.

The new manager of Black Stars has also been very supportive; He believes in me a lot, so I have to keep working hard to restore the trust and confidence that he has in me.
On Ghana’s game against Qatar and building a new team
It’s a game where we have to do better. We were not good enough in the first game, we all know that, we are all professional players and we all know that we did not do well against Mali and we have to do better and at least start by having a solid good performance and then the results will follow. But the most important thing is to have a very good performance as a team and, obviously, the result will continue. But also, let’s keep in mind that we are forming a new team and that it will take a little time, so we have to be a little patient. We need to make sure we don’t repeat the mistakes we made a couple of days ago, make sure we don’t repeat them tomorrow, and make sure we put in a solid performance to redeem ourselves.
