The Zonta Clubs of Ghana, in commemorating International Girl’s Day on Sunday, have called for an end to all traditional practices, which stand in the way of girls from achieving their full potential.

The Zonta Clubs said that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by world leaders in 2015, with special emphasis on Gender Equality (SDG 5), called for full inclusion to ensure that these are achieved.

“No girl should be left behind,” he added.

He congratulated all the stakeholders involved in making the world a better place for girls.

On December 19, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child to recognize the rights of girls and the unique challenges they face around the world. .

The Day focuses on the need to address the challenges girls face and promote their empowerment and fulfillment of their human rights.

In 1995, at a World Conference on Women in Beijing, China, the rights of women and girls were born and the participating countries unanimously adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the most progressive plan to promote rights not only of women but also of girls.

The Beijing Declaration was the first to specifically call for the rights of girls.
