Memphis Depay has hinted that he will walk away from Lyon in January, after failing to sign for Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
The Dutch forward made no secret of his desire to join the Catalan giants, but that was only possible if they could transfer Ousmane Dembélé to Manchester United. However, that movement did not materialize since the French wanted to stay.
While Barcelona is likely to remain a priority for Depay, he revealed in an interview with Dutch newspaper AD, as reported by Sport, that there could be several clubs for him, with his contract until June 2021.
“We’ll see,” Depay said. Soon we will be in January. We will have to wait and see how things go. Not that I’m going to go definitely, but there will likely be clubs for me soon.
“I am 26 years old and almost free, so you can expect the clubs to take an interest in me, right?” added.
The former Manchester United player had his bags packed for Spain, but for now, he will continue to focus on Lyon and international service with the Netherlands.
“Everything was done to be honest, some rules prevented it from being finalized,” he explained.
‘I was waiting for the green light, but I kept training. It’s not like I have the phone in my shorts at training ground, ‘he added.
