Togbega Gbogbolulu V, the supreme chief of Vakpo and chairman of the Vakpo Traditional Council, says that the traditional area has not hired any groups to fight for independence on its behalf.
A press release signed by the Supreme Chief declared that the Vakpo people were genuine citizens of Ghana.
Togbega Gbogbolulu said that the Traditional Council would never support any group wishing to destabilize the peace and condemned the activities of a group calling itself “Western Togoland” that supposedly fights for the liberation of the Volta region.
Therefore, he asked the Minister of National Security to deal with these groups to avoid disturbing the peaceful coexistence of the country as a unitary state.
Togbega Gbogbolulu said that any person or group of people found to be involved in the illegal activities of secessionist groups within the Traditional Area will be detained and turned over to law enforcement agencies for the law to deal with.
He congratulated the security agencies and demanded a swift prosecution of the perpetrators to “send the right signals” to others to desist from unpatriotic activities and the destruction of the nation.
Togbega Gbogbolu pledged the loyalty of the chiefs, elders and citizens of the Vakpo Traditional Area to the state to deal with the evildoers.
He called on the government to involve all opinion leaders and key stakeholders in the Region to find a lasting solution to the issue.
Togbega Gbogbolulu urged everyone to ensure that the activities leading up to the 2020 general election were carried out freely, fairly and transparently, without unnecessary tension or suspicion between them.
