The Electoral Commission (EC) closed on Friday, October 9, the window for the submission of nomination forms for the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
A total of 15 presidential hopefuls, representing 12 political parties and three independent candidates, have submitted their nominations to compete in the December 7 elections.
Alfred Kwame Walker, Kofi Koranteng and Marricke Kofi Gane are so far the nominated independent hopefuls.
The entire People’s Congress, the National Democratic Congress, the People’s Convention Party, the Progressive People’s Party, the Ghana Trade Union Movement and the ruling New Patriotic Party are among the parties that have presented candidates for the presidential race.
Others are the Ghana Freedom Party, the Great Consolidated People’s Party, the National Democratic Party, the United Progressive Party, the People’s Action Party, and the United Front Party.
The Dr. Hilla Limman People’s National Convention was expected to submit its nomination forms today.
Despite concerns about the new filing fee, political parties and applicants have submitted their forms and submitted them to the office.
The filing fee for presidential candidates was set at GH ¢ 100,000.00 while aspiring parliamentarians had to pay GH ¢ 10,000.00.
