Spain He spoke with MARCA
Brahim Diaz | has joined AC Milan on a one-season loan agreement Real Madrid, and the playmaker has revealed how Zinedine Zidane he wants you to express yourself while playing in Italy.
The 21-year-old is off to a good start with the Rossoneri, playing in three games and scoring a goal before the international break.
Now, having joined with Spainyou are under 21 years old, Brahim has sat down for an interview with MARCA.
Welcome back to the Spanish Under-21 team. Three years later, you have been called again.
I am looking forward to it. It is always a pleasure and an honor to be able to return to the national team. I am lucky to be here.
You made your debut three years ago with the U21, with another generation and being very young. A lot has happened to you since then. How is Brahim now?
Good things have happened to me. The truth is that I am a happy and content boy who has a lot to learn. I have very clear ideas and I hope that everything continues as before.
After a few seasons in which you didn’t have the opportunities you were looking for, you went to Milan and are already enjoying more minutes, something that has allowed you to return to the national team. Is the return to stay thinking about the Eurocup and the Olympics?
This is the goal. To come and stay. Now I am very well, in a great moment and I am working to keep it that way.
You’ve been through almost every youth team. Now you have to settle in the U21 and fight to become European champion.
I had the misfortune to miss the U21 European Championship, which we won and played marvelously, due to injury, but now I am here. Time to sit back and go on as I have been so far.
You have already scored your first goal for Milan, you have a bigger role and it seems that everything is going your way. Is there another way to get to the Spanish senior team after experiencing so many positive things?
I am very excited about what I have ahead of me and I am working to continue with this dynamic that I am having both at the club and these days with the national team.
All the coaches in the lower ranks of the national team talk about how young players must seek minutes in their clubs to grow and progress. Is this what you are looking for this season?
Now I am focused on doing my best, doing very good things and being able to help the team. There is a very healthy, ambitious and high-quality staff who are eager to succeed. I hope to continue like this, to continue with this good dynamic and to fight to have many minutes.
You keep playing the same as when we saw you when you were 12 or 13 years old at Malaga. Your football is very technical, what does Italian football give you?
In Italy you see a very tactical and perhaps more aggressive style of football. It helps you to better position yourself on the field and play faster. Each country has a different football and here I am also improving many things.
Whether you are a starter or a substitute, you have always brought freshness to their team. The usual self confidence is still showing. Does Stefano Pioli tell you to be yourself in the field?
Yeah, he always tells me to go out and have fun. Have that confidence and give the team freshness. Everything is going very well and I am very happy.
Tell us, what did you feel when you saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the first time?
When I got to the Milan dressing room, the first person I saw was Ibrahimovic. We’ve already seen how great he is as a player. It has proven it for a long time and it still shows it. As a person, he is the same. He always tries to help and is a great person.
Were you a little shy?
No, I’m used to being in big dressing rooms and at my age the truth is that in the end, despite being shy, I can talk to him. He has already given me great advice in these early days.
Milan is slowly getting closer to being similar to the team it once was. What did you feel in such a winning club?
There are very good feelings; It is a healthy, ambitious and high quality group. We are doing things very well, we have a good run of results. There are big goals that we have to meet because Milan is Milan. A great, historic club in Europe. All together we will give that desire to be at the top again.
At the age of 21 you have played for big clubs like Manchester City, Real Madrid and Milan. Not bad.
It’s always a pleasure. Not bad at all, really.
Zidane couldn’t give you the minutes you wanted at Real Madrid. What advice did he give you when you said goodbye and said you were going to Milan?
Zidane was great as a player and as a coach he is a winner. I am very fond of him and I know that he loves me too. He has always given me good advice. He told me to be myself, have fun and show my soccer skills.
After staying at Real Madrid last summer and not having the expected opportunities, did you think that you should really leave this summer?
I was having a good time at Real Madrid, I ended up playing two seasons ago and then I was unlucky to miss the U21 European Championship and practically the entire preseason due to injury. This year I felt the interest of a club like Milan and their affection and I decided to take the step to play and show my ability.
Because this is a two-way street. In the medium or long term, Real Madrid will always be in your thoughts.
Well now I’m focused on Milan and I’m doing the best I can with them. I want to do great things with this team and at this great club.
Back to the national team. There are many quality players to play as playmakers. You, Pedri, Oscar Rodríguez, Riqui Puig … What have you found?
There are players of great quality and talent. Getting all of us together is wonderful because very good football is coming out. They are very good teammates that I just met and they are very talented. We are going to do our best to do good things.
Is Luis de la Fuente going to turn to you as a midfielder, winger or number 10?
I have the ability to play in various positions and he knows it, he has known me for a long time.
He is the coach with whom you debuted with the U19.
Yes, I was in the U19 with him and he was my coach.
