NIGERIA: Anambra State Police arrested a 21-year-old man, Onyeamachi Mmaju, pictured above, for allegedly stabbing his landlord, Nonso Oyikoba, 35, to death at Ogidi Ani-Etiti in Idemili North LGA from the state on Tuesday. , October 6.
A statement issued by the spokesman for the state police command, Haruna Mohammed, revealed that the police officers attached to the Ogidi Division led by DPO CSP Ekuri Remigius, received a report of the tragic incident and visited the scene. Upon arriving there, the victim, who was found in a pool of blood, was rushed to the Iyi Enu Ogidi Mission Hospital for medical attention, where the doctor certified his death upon arrival.
Haruna said careful observation of the corpse revealed a stab wound to the back, while a bloodstained knife allegedly used to carry out the act was also recovered as a display at the scene.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased allegedly had a brief dispute over ‘bringing too many women to the compound’ which ultimately led to a fight that resulted in the deceased being stabbed to death,” the statement read in part.
Haruna said Police Commissioner CP John B. Abang ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet investigation, after which the suspect will be charged before the Court for prosecution.
