According to an October 6 press release, the group said it is determined to push for the decision to be reversed.
“With intense pressure from administrative heads, students are prepared and ready to, by any means necessary, seek redress and thus issue a fourteen-day ultimatum after which we will result in the use of other mechanisms to seek justice. due to increasing number of student unrest ”, The statement is read in parts.
The group also said that the 5% increase in school fees by the Ghana Institute of Journalism administration and the 12% increase at the University of Ghana Legon is unacceptable as many of the students are struggling to comply. with the requirement.
“A lot of students are about to drop out of school due to such an inconsiderate decision. The government’s monetary commitment to lower school fees would not be a disadvantage for other beneficiaries of the coronavirus relief program. “
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, tertiary institutions truncated their physical involvement and turned to online studies. Students at most of these tertiary institutions have had to bear the cost of data for learning, as the government did not make any special provision for students.
As it stands, it’s unclear when tertiary institutions will resume and if there will be physical interaction, but some schools have already announced reopening dates and fees for the upcoming academic year, including deadlines for paying fees.
Meanwhile, some students have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the increase in school fees using the hashtag #TertiaryFeesMustFall.
