The Keta Municipal Assembly began distributing nasal masks to market to women prior to the implementation of the President’s directive on the mandatory use of nasal masks since Monday, May 4.
Although the directive forcing people to wear face masks in all public places as part of measures to control the spread of COVID-19 was not yet in full force, there are “No Mask, No Entry” signs on the doors of Keta Municipal Assembly offices.
Godwin Edudzi Effah, Keta Municipal Executive Director (MCE), said the donation saw 250 nasal masks and 660 alcohol-based hand sanitizers distributed to merchants in the Keta market after raising awareness of the importance and application of the use of nasal masks.
He said, “The Assembly cannot buy the nasal mask for everyone, so this exercise is only to educate the public about what is coming and what we must do to prevent the virus. The Assembly has already put up obstacles to detect people entering the Municipality, but we are saying that since Monday, without the nasal mask, they are not allowed to enter, regardless of their examination. It is mandatory that you wear your mask, ”said the MCE.
