Akufo-Addo presents the EC nomination forms today

The standard bearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP), President Akufo-Addo and three others, are expected to submit their completed nomination forms at the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters today, Tuesday, October 6, for the presidential elections. 2020.

The others are the leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor, Dr. Hassan Ayariga of All People’s Congress (APC) and Jacob Osei Yeboah, an independent aspirant.

An EC source who revealed this to the Ghana News Agency said that Dr. Tom Asisseh, an independent aspirant, and Kwesi Busumbru from the People’s Action Party (PAP) are expected to present the presentation on Thursday 08 October .

The nomination forms will be sent to Jean Mensa, the EC president, who is the returning officer for the presidential elections.

Applicants are expected to visit the Commission between 9 am and 5 pm to present their nominations.

On September 15, 2020, the EC opened nominations for parliamentary and presidential hopefuls ahead of the 2020 general elections.

Due to COVID-19, applicants must download forms online, as a measure to contain the spread of the virus.

The EC president, at a press conference to announce the opening of nominations, said that the forms were protected with passwords to ensure the integrity of the process.

The president said: “The forms must be submitted in quadruple. The forms will be presented at the CE headquarters by the candidates or their supporters.

“In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission has limited the number of people to file the forms at the headquarters or district offices… five people per candidate.

She said: “The forms for the parliamentary candidates will be sent to the Return Officer of the Constituency to which the Candidate seeks election at the District Office of the Election Commission.”

Presidential hopefuls for the 2020 general election must pay a filing fee of GHC100,000 and GHC10,000 for aspiring parliamentarians.

The EC said presidential candidates who obtained 25 percent of the total valid votes cast would have a refund of their filing fees.

The commission said that, for parliamentary candidates, the refund will only be granted to those who obtain 12.5 percent of the total valid votes cast.

He said there will be no refund for applicants whose nominations were disqualified.
