As the presidential race begins to heat up with nearly two months to go until the general election, political party leaders and standard bearers are mandated to submit and submit their nomination forms to the Election Commission.

The presentation of candidacies is part of an electoral process that qualifies candidates seeking to stand in the general elections.

The electoral body, the Electoral Commission in September this year, established a five-day period for presidential, parliamentary and independent candidates to submit their nomination forms from October 5 to 9, 2020.

The Commission declared a reserve of GH ¢ 100,000 as the filing fee for presidential candidates and GH ¢ 10,000 for that of candidates for Parliament to be paid through a bank transfer.

Meanwhile, the Acting Head of Public Affairs of the Electoral Commission, Sylvia Annoh, has revealed that the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) will present its nomination on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.

According to the EC, the Ghana Freedom Party led by Akua Donkor will also present its nomination tomorrow, October 6, 2020, at 10:00 am

This year’s nominations, however, will be different from those of previous years, according to the Electoral Commission.

The Commission in line with the COVID-19 pandemic and its security protocols has introduced a web portal for the presentation of candidacies for the general elections.

“The forms will be accessed on the commission’s website; www.ec.gov.ghana / Politicalparties and will be available to all political parties starting at 6:00 pm today. [Monday, September 14, 2020]”said previously the president of the EC, Jean Mensa.

He explained that to ensure the security and integrity of the nomination process, each political party will be provided with a unique password to allow them to access the password-protected nomination forms.

“This will be available through the folder with the name of your political party on the portal and the password will be provided to the general secretaries of political parties,” said Jean Mensa.

The Commission added that independent candidates will also receive unique passwords.
