Manchester United are having a very busy transfer deadline, with Alex Telles joining from Porto and Edinson Cavani arriving on a free transfer.
Left-back Telles signed a four-year contract with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team, while Cavani is expected to sign for two years after the forward left Paris-Saint Germain this summer.
Their arrivals come at the end of a transfer window dominated by speculation around Jadon Sancho, and it seems unlikely that United will sign to the extreme after being unwilling to comply with Borussia Dortmund’s £ 108 million valuation.
United are also in talks with Watford about Ismaila Sarr, and he still has another 11 days to complete a deal for the winger due to an extended transfer window to trade with EFL clubs.
There are several jersey numbers available for Telles and Cavani, and for any other Old Trafford newcomers.
And that includes the iconic number seven jersey, famous for wearing club legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, George Best, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Bryan Robson.
Here, Sport mirror take a look at some of the jersey numbers available.
No7
One of the most iconic jerseys in world football given the list of legends who have worn it, the number 7 jersey seems to have been a natural fit for Sancho.
However, now that Sancho looks set to stay in Dortmund, Cavani will no doubt like the jersey as he tries to leave his own legacy at Old Trafford.
Of the numbers available, he is probably the most attractive for a man of Cavani’s position in the game, as the 33-year-old forward has shot 341 club goals for Paris-Saint Germain, Napoli and Palermo.
Sarr would undoubtedly like to have a chance to occupy an important place if he moves to United, as does Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembélé, who has also been linked.
Of course, he could still have the Sancho name if United can succeed in a bid for England’s ace next summer.
The jersey was recently worn by Alexis Sánchez, who fell through after his move to United in January 2018.

Andreas Pereira’s departure for Lazio means that jersey number 15 is available.
While many team numbers have positional connotations attached to them, Manchester United has had a variety of different players wearing this jersey throughout the years, from central Nemanja Vidic to tricky winger Adnan Januzaj and midfielder Jack of all trades. Pereira.
Telles’ jersey number at Porto was 13, but it is currently held by Lee Grant. However, the Brazilian left-back wore the number 15 during a stint at Galatasaray early in his career, so this could be an option for him at Old Trafford.
The number three jersey normally associated with Telles’ left back position is currently held by center midfielder Eric Bailly.
No19
Marcus Rashford took the number 10 jersey in 2018, vacating the number 19 he had worn during the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons.
Before Rashford, Danny Welbeck held the number, and it was also stamped on the back of Dwight Yorke’s jersey during the historic triumph of Manchester United’s Trebles in 1999.
It’s a jersey number that comes with attacking overtones that could make him a good fit for Cavani.
The Uruguayan’s number nine favorite is in the hands of Anthony Martial, so this might be the closest he can get to that.
No 20
There’s something about Manchester United’s number 20 jersey.
It was, of course, the jersey number that Solskjaer made famous during his celebrated playing career with the club. He wore it that memorable night at Camp Nou in 1999.
Most recently, it was the jersey Robin Van Persie wore when he led United to the Premier League title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season.
He may not be as revered as number seven, but number 20 is a number for world-class scorers at Manchester United and that could make it perfect for Cavani.
The Uruguayan would join some illustrious company to become United’s next number 20.
No27
The number 27 jersey has been vacant since Marouane Fellaini left Manchester United for China, so this would be an option for any player signing for the Reds on the day of the transfer deadline.
While a number of players have worn the jersey over the years, from Federico Macheda to Mikael Silvestre and even Gary Neville, it doesn’t have much of a history or romance.
The opportunity is there for someone to give some meaning to the number 27 jersey at Old Trafford, although being out of the numbers 1-20 gives the impression of being a player of the squad.
This could be an option for Facundo Pellistri or Amad Traore should they arrive.
No28
Manchester United are looking to chart their way back to the top. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already signed Donny van de Beek, but Jadon Sancho remains Manchester United’s number one target.

Angel Gomes wore Manchester United’s number 28 last season, but vacated it after refusing to sign a new contract with the Old Trafford club and leaving this summer.
It hasn’t brought much fortune to those who have used it over the years, with Morgan Schneiderlin, Alexander Buttner and Darron Gibson occupying it for a time. Anderson even wore it in his final season at the club.
It seems unlikely that Cavani would carry a number this far down the pecking order, but like the number 27 jersey, it would be an option for a team figure or a young player looking to break into the first team count.
