Some 110,000 women-owned micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Ghana have benefited from the government’s special fund for MSMEs, said Greater Accra Regional Deputy Minister Elizabeth Sackey.
This comes after the government initiated the Coronavirus Relief Program Business Support Scheme (CAP BuSS) aimed at supporting primarily youth-owned micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) from the adverse impact of the COVID pandemic. -19.
According to Elizabeth Sackey, women-owned businesses are among some 240,000 businesses that have so far received their share of the GH ¢ 750 million CAP BuSS fund.
“Once again, we are reliably informed that the recent NBSSI program and the Mastercard Foundation to help resilient MSMEs also have a positive bias towards women,” she said at the launch of the Ghana Women Entrepreneurs Summit.
“Around 70 percent of all beneficiary MSMEs are expected to be owned and run by women. I am convinced that this strategy is the surest form of economic recovery after COVID-19, “added Madam Sackey.
Meanwhile, NBSSI CEO Kosi Yankey Ayeh says he has created some 21,892 new jobs in the past three and a half years through his various initiatives.
