Mining Engineer, Minerals Economist and Former Deputy Secretary of NPP-California, USA, Solomon Owusu, has challenged President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to catalog all of his 1,824 projects in the Ashanti region for public scrutiny. .

Dr. Owusu has asked the President to provide a detailed explanation, costs, and stages of the alleged 1,824 projects his administration has undertaken in the Ashanti region for Ghanaians to authenticate their existence.

According to Solomon, the president spread a politically defamed message to the Asantehene when he visited the wise king at his Manhyia palace in Kumasi.

Expressing his views on a diaspora radio station, Dr. Owusu admonished Ghanaians abroad, especially the Ashantis, to ignore the president’s message and demand the list of all projects located in each constituency so Ghanaians at home can check their location and the progress of each project.

According to him, the president has disappointed Asanteman where the NPP party wins many of his votes and he had no choice but to fabricate falsehoods to the Ashantis about projects because he had nothing to show for in the region.

The expressive former PNP executive said the president had abandoned most of the projects started by the previous NDC government. On Monday, September 28, 2020, the president paid a courtesy visit to Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II where he presented the 47 PNP MPs as candidates for the King.

Presenting his achievements to the Asantehene at that meeting, President Akufo-Addo said his government had undertaken 1,824 projects in the Ashanti region alone, including 606 water and sanitation projects, 604 education projects, 151 road projects, 92 projects. health, aviation and port projects.

In total, the president mentioned 1,455 projects living 369 projects of 1,824 disappeared.

Criticizing the inconsistencies in the president’s speech, Dr. Owusu said the difference in numbers between the 1,824 total projects and the actual 1,455 announced by the president raised a red flag.

He interpreted the disparity to mean a mixture of numbers with the deceptive intention of convincing Asanteman of the votes.

In his opinion, the president has obtained less than 15% in infrastructure development in the Ashanti region compared to former president Mahama who built schools, roads, markets, hospitals, water reservoirs and airports, among others.

The Asantehene after listening to the president told him that the people will vote based on the good works of each candidate, inferring that the vote of the president in the region will determine their votes on election day.

Commenting on the handover of Asantehene, Dr. Owusu said that Otumfour’s proverbial and wise speech suggests that he refrained from declaring below-average government performance, and opined that he admonished the president to improve his governance strategy to lessen the difficulties of the Ghanaians.

“This government has nothing to show for Obuasi, Tarkwa, Dunkwa and all other mining towns except poverty, bad roads and poor living conditions,” suggested Dr. Owusu.

The Ashanti region is known to be the traditional stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP), but according to Dr. Owusu, the Akufo-Addo-led government has underperformed in the region than any previous government.

“Many of the residents of this region are involved in small-scale mining, illegal mining (galamsey), auto mechanic and auto electrical businesses, auto parts business, small businesses and other businesses, but Unfortunately, this government has collapsed the mining business, subjecting the inhabitants of the mining areas to unprecedented hardships, “he lamented.

He also noted that the PNP administration has collapsed local banks, where these small business owners have borrowed in the past.

He said that the recent government decision to ban the importation of salvage cars into the country will greatly affect auto mechanics, automotive electricians and spare parts businesses in Ghana, especially those in Suame-Magazine in Kumasi who voted en masse for then-candidate Akufo- Addo. during the 2016 elections.

In his presentation, he projected that Ghana’s car dealership business will collapse if Ghanaians make the mistake of voting for President Akufo-Addo on December 7.

Expressing regret for supporting the president in the 2016 elections, Dr. Owusu said that the government did not care about the welfare of the people, but rather about “greedy and selfish companies”, leading to the alarming rate of corrupt practices Ghanaians witness every day.

The outspoken mining engineer, as part of his presentation, advised Ghanaians to vote against President Akufo-Addo for disappointing the nation.
