The European Union, within the framework of the Accountability, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Program (ARAP), has delivered a movie van to the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Accra.

The acquisition of the van for the NCCE is intended to increase the audiovisual capacity of the Commission to reach communities through documentaries, films, audio recordings and live street interactions.

The $ 101,154.73 Van comes with a mobile generator, public address system, flat screen and other audiovisual equipment.

Ms. Diana Acconcia, introducing the truck to the NCCE, congratulated the Commission for its efforts to sensitize communities across the country.

He said the Commission would use the Cinema Van to extend its educational campaign, particularly on environmental governance issues, such as illegal mining and logging, and the poor disposal of waste in affected communities.

He said the Van would also help deepen the Commission’s operational capacity to reach the public with the key message of peace and violent free elections before, during and after the December elections.

“Therefore, we are proud of our association that has supported the Commission by promoting citizen participation in several elections from 2008 to 2016 and we should also be able to collaborate in this year’s elections on issues of conflict prevention,” he added.

The EU ambassador said that in addition to the elections, the Union has had a long cooperative partnership with Ghana, working on issues of public sector reforms, mobilizing household income, managing public spending, fighting corruption and improving standards of accountability.

Ms. Josephine Nkrumah, Chairperson of NCCE, praised the EU for its continued support to promote civic education and democracy in Ghana.

He said that the Commission had enjoyed many years of fruitful collaboration with the EU and that ensured that the NCCE could fulfill its mandate effectively.
