Thomas Partey can get his dream Chelsea jersey number by stamping the transfer, but on one condition

Chelsea are still linked with reinforcements in central midfield, but time is running out before the summer transfer window closes.

The latest name is that of Thomas Partey of Atlético de Madrid, as The Guardian claims that he is on the Blues list before the deadline.

Furthermore, the report states that the West London team could look at alternatives to West Ham United’s Declan Rice as they try to hire a defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes and that one option could be Partey, which has a clause on release of 45 million pounds on his contract at Atlético.

If Partey were to join the Blues, fans would expect to see the Ghanaian holding up the Chelsea jersey at their inauguration, but what squad number could the defensive midfielder pick at Stamford Bridge?

Partey’s favorite option seems to be number 5, as it is what he uses for both Atlético and the Ghana team. He also used it during a stage with Real Mallorca.

The only other jersey number that Partey has worn as a senior player in Spain is number 22 for Madrid and UD Almería.

In Chelsea, the headline no. 5 is Jorginho.

However, the Italian international has been linked to a move away from West London before the transfer window closes, ironically Arsenal are one of the interested clubs, so he could leave the No. 5 spot very soon.

This means that Partey could receive his favorite number if he joined Chelsea and the decision was made to sell Jorginho.

That said, what other numbers would be available to the 27-year-old if he signs with the Blues before Monday and does not sell to Jorginho?

Below we take a look to see what numbers are currently available at Stamford Bridge.

No.8

With Ross Barkley out on a one-season loan deal, his No. 8 is currently vacant.

No.25

Although the number 25 jersey has not been officially withdrawn by the club, it seems that Chelsea does not want anyone to face the famous number of Gianfranco Zola.

Leaving for his home country in 2003, no one at the club has worn the shirt since the Italian maestro left more than a decade ago.

No 26

As is the case with jersey number 25, John Terry’s number 26 may well be left vacant after his trophy-laden spell at Stamford Bridge.

No 27

Andreas Christensen’s move to number 4 has vacated number 27.

No 30

This was vacated when David Luiz joined Arsenal in the summer.

It is a team number that has been worn by the likes of Yossi Benayoun, Tiago and Jesper Gronjkaer in the past.

No 32

The number 32 jersey has been vacant after the departure of Marco Amelia in 2016.

Andreas Christensen, the current club number 4, had worn the number during the 2012/13 season.
