Porcupine Warriors communications director Moses Antwi Benefo has shed light on his desire to take over the former Sunderland forward

Asante Kotoko’s communications director Moses Antwi Benefo has revealed that the club has made Ghana forward Asamoah Gyan a firm target ahead of the 2020-21 Premier League (GPL) season.

Gyan, in the twilight of his career, has been linked to the Kumasi-based team, reports largely fueled by the 34-year-old’s outspoken declaration of his desire to play for the team before leaving active soccer.

He has been without a club since leaving NorthEast United of the Indian Super League earlier this year.

“It is an open secret that Asamoah Gyan has stated that he would love to play for Asante Kotoko before he finally hangs up his boosts,” Antwi Benefo told Oyerepa FM.

“And we at Kotoko believe that now is the time to incorporate it.

“The management [of the club] You have been given the green light to hire Asamoah Gyan.

“We have been in an era where the fan base has been a bit sluggish and we believe that acquiring Gyan will encourage fans to sponsor our games.

“We can use it as a tool to attract sponsors and partners, as well as to bring our fans back to the stands.”

Reports indicate that Gyan is demanding an amount of $ 500,000 [€426,530], an initial price that is proving to be an obstacle to any possible movement.

“Everyone knows Gyan’s capabilities in the field. The only challenge we face in this offer is monetary, “Antwi Benefo added.

“That is what has slowed down the discussions, but we hope to reach an agreement that is of mutual benefit to both parties.

“We [management] We have been tasked with making Kotoko economically viable and that is what we seek to achieve in every deal. “

Gyan played for Liberty Professionals before first traveling abroad to join Italian Udinese in 2003.

He has then represented Sunderland in England, Italian team Modena, Rennes in France, Al Ain and Al Ahli Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Shanghai SIPG in China and Turkish team Kayserispor.

The forward is currently Ghana’s most capped player and all-time top scorer, having accumulated 51 goals in 109 appearances for the Black Stars.
